A-Poem-a-Day
Until Resurrection Day
BONEY ELBOWS
I’ve forgiven
but I haven’t forgotten
Forgetting is another matter
entirely
Oh, if I could be a bit like God
I would simply bundle together
all those disappointments
all those unpleasant memories
and cast them into the
depths of the sea
and be done with them
forever
They’d never get
another opportunity
to slip back
into my consciousness
to nudge
and needle me
with their boney elbows
My pastor says
God uses all
things—
good, bad, joyful, sorrowful
every pain, every rejection, every loss
to bring about His purposes
He says there are only blessings
and blessings in disguise
so I don’t have to forget—
I just have to let go
and put my trust in Him
